Blake’s AEW Dynamite 3/11/20 Review: Mystery Partner

In this AEW Dynamite 3/11/20 review, Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara team up to face Hangman Page and a mystery partner in the main event.

As a note, I reviewed these shows at the time on another site, so I’m just transferring them to this site to add to the AEW catalog.

Let’s jump in.

  • Show: AEW Dynamite
  • Date: March 11, 2020
  • Location: Maverik Center in Salt Lake City, UT

BACKSTAGE: Tony Schiavone wants to know who Hangman Page’s mystery partner is, but he’s keeping it a secret. The Young Bucks enter, and he says the same thing to them.

Cody vs. Ortiz

Lance Archer debuts through crowd with Jake Roberts early in the match as the announcers hype Archer’s background. They also hype the Blood and Guts Match in two weeks. Cody hits a big move in the aisle and Archer goes to jump the rail, but Jake holds him back. Then Jake and Archer leave. Cody with the Figure Four and Ortiz taps.

IN THE RING: Santana attacks after the match with Arn stepping in. Kenny Omega and Matt Jackson hit the ring, but then we see Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Jake Hager in the back. They reveal that they have Nick Jackson under the garage door, so the Elite rush to the back to pull Nick out. Nick is taken away in ambulance with Cody and Matt following behind.

VIDEO: The announcers hype the big matches on the show.

Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida vs. Bea Priestley and Nyla Rose

Something that stands out in this match is that Shida is very impressive. Shida with a bodyslam on Nyla, but it’s Nyla with a spear on Shida for the win. Meanwhile, since partners struggle to co-exist in the sport of professional wrestling, Priestley attacks Nyla after the match.

VIDEO: A package hypes the Christopher Daniels storyline with the Dark Order. Daniels spoofs them and challenges Evil Uno and Stu Grayson.

MJF, The Butcher, and The Blade vs. Jurassic Express

Excalibur hypes MJF being the new No. 2 in the rankings. We get a Luchasaurus/MJF interaction to start the match. They showcase Luchasaurus’s strength by him pulling MJF and Blade to make hot tag to Jungle Boy. Then it’s Luchasaurus with an insane move over the top onto MJF, Butcher, and Blade. Marko beats the hell out of MJF in the corner, but the ref pulls him away, then he goes after him again to a huge reaction from the crowd. However, multiple distractions lead to MJF forcing Marko to tap. (Recommended)

VIDEO: Hype for Darby Allin starring against the Inner Circle on last week’s episode, and there’s a video of Darby hyping his feud with Guevara.

ON THE RAMP: Schiavone interviews Britt Baker. She runs down Utah and says she wants to be their role model. Big Swole interrupts, so Baker throws coffee in her face.

Joey Janela and Private Party vs. Death Triangle

The Lucha Bros are so good. So, so good. Incredible action and athleticism on display in this match. Lots of back and forth as you would expect, and it’s PAC with the Black Arrow on Janela for the win. Death Triangle hooks all three of their opponents together after the match and pose, but Best Friends arrive to make the save. (Recommended)

BACKSTAGE: Lexi Nair with Dustin Rhodes, and he’s pissed off at the Inner Circle. Dustin then announces that he’s Page’s partner in the main event.

VIDEO: Hype for Shawn Spears looking for a tag team partner.

ON THE STAGE: The announcers hype Best Friends vs. Death Triangle next week, the reveal for The Exalted One, and The Inner Circle vs. The Elite.

VIDEO: JR with Moxley, who’s angry about the injuries. He challenges Hager to a fight.

Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara vs. Hangman Page and Dustin Rhodes

Jericho is awesome mocking Page by drinking a beer. That is vintage heel Jericho. He’s one of the best in terms of character work. It’s also worth pointing out that Guevara is a star, and he could make AEW a lot of money if he continues to develop his skills. All four men get some shine in this one, but it’s Page who hits a huge clothesline on Guevara for the victory.

IN THE RING: Inner Circle attack after the match. Omega runs in but gets beat up. Cody returns but gets destroyed by Hager. Ortiz also hits a suplex on the ramp to Cody. Inner Circle drag Page up the ramp to set up for the triple powerbomb, but Matt Jackson makes the save. Jericho then hits Matt and Page with a chair before the Inner Circle pose.

BLAKE’S TAKE ON AEW DYNAMITE 3/11/20

Overall Rating: 7.0/10

Thoughts: An easy watch as usual with lots of development for the Elite vs. Inner Circle feud. Plus, Archer’s debut is nice since he could fit in great on the AEW roster. Also a few recommended matches with the two trios contests.
