Blake’s AEW Dynamite 4/15/20 Review: Moxley vs. Hager

In this AEW Dynamite 4/15/20 review, Jon Moxley defends the AEW World title against Jake Hager and much more.

Let’s jump in.

  • Show: AEW Dynamite
  • Date: April 15, 2020
  • Location: ????

VIDEO: Jake Roberts with more hype for Lance Archer’s dominance.

RINGSIDE: Tony Schiavone and Chris Jericho hype the matches.

VIDEO: Colt Cabana hypes his TNT title tournament match with Archer.

Colt Cabana vs. Lance Archer – TNT Title Tournament Quarterfinals

In true Archer fashion, he delivers a huge right to someone in the crowd before the match. This is a back-and-forth match with Cabana getting some offense in, so at least the babyfaces are making progress against the monster. Jericho hilariously calls one of the moves the “Colorado state flag elbow,” which sounds ferocious. Archer with the Blackout for the win to advance.

VIDEO: A hype video for Britt Baker, who broke her nose on last week’s show.

VIDEO: MMA journalist Ariel Helwani and Taz make their predictions for the Jon Moxley vs. Jake Hager match.

VIDEO: Taz breaks down Hager’s MMA holds.

Cassandra Golden vs. Britt Baker

Baker is already back in action. She taunts Hikaru Shida in the front row before the match to further their ongoing rivalry, which again, went up a notch after Shida busted Baker’s nose. Baker with a kick to Golden’s head with her mouth on the ropes, and that’ll do it for the victory.

VIDEO: The Bubbly Bunch talks with each other from various locations. Sammy Guevara is working out. Jericho is cooking eggs and spills his orange juice, then he yells about not having toilet paper. These segments are highly entertaining.

Suge D vs. Sammy Guevara

Schiavone and Jericho are laughing at trying to figure out Suge’s name. This commentary team is just fantastic. Jericho hypes Sammy’s awesomeness, and eventually, Sammy hits a knee to Suge’s face for the win. After the match, Sammy hypes his match with Darby Allin before attacking Suge again, but Darby runs in to make the save.

Kip Sabian vs. Chuck Taylor

Jericho pushes that wins and losses mean something in AEW. They do indeed. Chuck with a backdrop on Sabian on the apron. Ford starts punching and kicking Chuck with the ref distracted with Orange Cassidy. Ford then takes her jacket off to distract Chuck, and Sabian kisses her. Cassidy gets on the apron and takes his jacket off, but Jimmy Havoc hits him with a DDT. Ford hits the Frankensteiner off the top on Chuck with the ref distracted before Sabian rolls him up for the victory.

Justin Law vs. Shawn Spears

Squash match, anyone? Perhaps it’s needed for Spears, who lost to Cody in the quarterfinals of the TNT title tournament. Spears allows Law to try an amateur wrestling move on him. You can probably guess how that turned out. Spears with the C4 for the easy win.

Jake Hager vs. (c) Jon Moxley – AEW World Title

Jim Ross is on commentary for this one, and it’s an empty arena match that was likely taped a few weeks ago. How they’re juggling the taping schedule with all this figures to make for an interesting documentary at some point. The action goes outside the ring and JR points out that it’s more to Moxley’s advantage. Hager with a backdrop on Moxley on the concrete floor. Ouch. Moxley with the Figure Four on Hager around an aisle rail. Then Moxley starts yelling and spitting at Hager to add to it. Hager puts on the ankle lock with Moxley screaming at him. However, Moxley throws a chair at Hager’s face and then hits the Paradigm Shift for the victory to retain the title.

BLAKE’S TAKE ON AEW DYNAMITE 4/15/20

  • Overall Rating: 7.0/10
  • Thoughts: The commentary duo of Schiavone and Jericho continue to be one of the best things about AEW right now. That’s not knocking everything else, it’s just that they’re that good. They offer much-needed entertainment and it’s so different from the usual presentation. No must-see matches on this edition, but there’s solid character advancement.
